Spinal microdiscectomy is a minimally invasive surgery, done to decompress a painful nerve root by removing disk fragments from a herniated disk, usually in the lower back (lumbar area). Unlike lumbar spine surgery that requires an incision 2 to 5 inches long, microdiscectomy is performed with a microscope through a very small incision (about 1 to 1 ½ inches). Tissue valve is indicated in patient’s over sixty years of age, Female of reproductive age who wants to carry a baby, where anticoagulant drugs are contra indicated and in presence of infection within the heart itself. This young female patient had her aortic valve replaced by 21 mm Bovine pericrdial valve. Her aortic valve was congenitally abnormal having bicuspid leaflets and was severely stenosed with a peak pressure gradiant of 100mm Hg.The operation and recovery were uneventful. Dr. Md.
